Crossing the Skyline, an exhibition on architecture, literacy, and incarceration by Aneesha Dharwadker, is at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago through mid-December.

The exhibition Revealing Presence: Women in Architecture at the University of Illinois, 1874-2019, part of the Women’s Reunion and Symposium recently held at the School of Architecture, has been called “an exhibition you shouldn’t miss” by the Architect’s Newspaper.

The Women’s Reunion and Symposium, organized by Marci Uihlein and Sara Bartumeus is featured in a story by the Illinois News Bureau.

Yu-Lun Hsu and Ali Gholamabbas won second place in the 2019 Chicago Award in Architecture Student Competition for their entry Hybrid Network.

Her submission for the 2018 competition, “Crossing the Skyline,” connects the Harold Washington Library and the Metropolitan Correctional Facility with a library annex for prisoners.

Associate Professor and Director of URL: Urban Research Lab T.F. Tierney has been invited to present a paper at the Architectural Humanities Research Association International Conference “Smartness: Between Discourse and Practice.”

As part of his ongoing research on Le Corbusier’s work in the Americas, Alejandro Lapunzina was invited to deliver a public lecture at the auditorium of the Colegio de Arquitectos de la Provincia de Buenos Aires located in La Plata, Argentina.

Professor and Edgar A. Tafel Endowed Chair in Architecture Botond Bognar received the Honorary Gold Diploma in Architecture (Épitészmérnöki Diszoklevél) on May 24.

T.F. Tierney will present a research paper on smart cities at the 2018 “New Instrumentalities” conference sponsored by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and El Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid.

On April 27 and 28 the City of Peoria Innovation Team will host an exhibition of design ideas for West Main Street developed by students at the Illinois School of Architecture during a spring studio course.

T.F. Tierney has launched “Making New History: The Chicago Biennial” in conjunction with her ARCH 576 architectural theory seminar students.

Professor Botond Bognar has been invited to serve as a regular member on the review panel of the prominent professional journal Architectural Research Quarterly, published by Cambridge University Press.

In May, Professor Botond Bognar presented his paper “Structure and Space: The Realization of Toyo Ito’s National Taichung Theater” at the fifth annual International Conference on Architecture and Civil Engineering in Singapore.

In June 2017, Professor Botond Bognar gave the keynote address “Architecture in the Global World” at the World Multidisciplinary Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning Symposium in Prague, the Czech Republic. The symposium was attended by more than 500 participants from five continents.

Gunnar Birkerts, as the first Plym Distinguished Professor, quickly set the standard for all Plym Professors who followed.

From among over 200 entries, students from the Illinois School of Architecture have won second and third place awards in the 2017 Steel Design Student Competition, a national awards program sponsored by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
