Global higher education analysis firm Quacquarelli Symonds has revealed its rankings of the world’s 200 top universities for the study of architecture/built environment for 2018.

The Illinois School of Architecture is pleased to announce the winners of the Earl Prize in Design (undergraduate) and the Graduate Awards for Design Excellence (graduate) for the fall 2017 semester.

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has established a $2,000/year AISC Scholarship for a top student in our undergraduate steel design course who continues to pursue our Graduate Structures concentration.

Visiting Lecturers Claire Gaspin and David Emmons collaborated with BSAS student Mingda Zhang on “Home, Again,” which was awarded second place in the 24H: Home Competition sponsored by Ideas Forward.

Graduate student Meghna Majethiya has been awarded the seventh annual Sean F. Mellon Memorial Scholarship by the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) New York Council.

Associate Professor Lynne Dearborn’s spring 2015 Peoria studio was highlighted in the AIA Illinois Newsletter.

Mohamed Boubekri has published papers with doctoral students Jaewook Lee and Thulasi Ram Khamma in the Journal of Green Building and the Journal of Engineering and Architecture.

Doctoral student Nastaran Shishegar and Professor Mohamed Boubekri published a paper in the journal Energy and Buildings titled “Quantifying Electrical Energy Savings in Offices through Installing Daylight Responsive Control Systems in Hot Climates.” Access the article.

From among over 200 entries, students from the Illinois School of Architecture have won second and third place awards in the 2017 Steel Design Student Competition, a national awards program sponsored by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

Jacob Eble’s Revitalizing the Rural was awarded an honorable mention in the 2017 Here + Now: A House for the 21st Century Residential Student Design Competition.

Lecturer David Emmons recently collaborated with former exchange student Claire Gaspin on a competition entry entitled “The Summit,” which was awarded a finalist mention in the Castle Resort Competition, sponsored by Young Architects Competitions.

The school’s new robotic arm has been featured in a story by the Daily Illini.

Jesse Han was awarded honorable mention in the Image of Research: Undergraduate Edition Competition for her research project titled “Analyzing Resources in Support of Public Interest Design,” which she has been working on with Associate Professor Lynne Dearborn this semester.

Thulasi Ram Khamma, a doctoral student working with Associate Professor Mohamed Boubekri, was awarded a national-level Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps (EDF CC) Fellowship for summer 2017.

The school’s new robotic arm has been featured in a story by the Illinois News Bureau.

The Student Sustainability Committee, which allocates over $1.1 million each year to sustainable projects on campus, has recommended that the School of Architecture’s Root to Roof initiative receive $94,750 in funding, pending final administrative approval.
