Profile: 

Professor Aminmansour’s areas of research and scholarship interest and experience include structural steel and reinforced concrete design as well as sustainability impact of tall buildings. 

Structural Steel Design:

  • Member of the Committee on Manuals of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) - - Committee is responsible for technical contents of the AISC's Steel Construciton Manual, Seismic Design Manual and Design Guide series (currently 34 Design Guides)
  • Developed the formulas and table included in Part Six (Combined Forces) of the Steel Construction Manual published by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
  • Member, Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC)
  • Member, Australian Steel Institute (ASI)
  • Numerous invited presentations
  • Received AISC's 2015 Special Achievement Award for his paper titled "A New Approach for Design of Steel Beam-Colunns" published in the AISC's Engineering Journal. This was the first in a series of papers by Professor Aminmansour that led to the development of tables and formulas for design of structural steel members subject to combined loads included in Part Six of the AISC's Steel Construction Manual.
  • Currently developing Steel ToolBox, a suite of electronic resources for structural steel design including the following features:
    • An integrated online textbook
    • Powerful and flexible calculator for interactive design of structural steel and composite members
    • Complete solutions with charts, tables, and formulas that can be saved and/or printed
    • Integration with the latest AISC Specification
    • Very flexible application - - can be used by practitioners to freshen up their steel design skills or learn steel design in more depth as well as by students who are new to structural steel design.

  • M.S. thesis research on flexural and shear failure of reinforced concrete beams with non-prismatic cross sections (theoretical and experimental study of 10 beams)
  • Ph.D. research on impact resistance of reinforced concrete bridge barriers (theoretical, strut-and-tie and experimental study of about 100 full scale impact tests)
