Adding a Concentration

If you are completing the M.ARCH degrees, please remember that you also have the option to complete a concentration. This is not a requirement.

Students who would like to earn a concentration in one of the program areas (Urbanism; Health and Wellbeing,; History+Theory+Preservation; Building Performance; Design of Tall Buildings; and Detail and Fabrication) please complete the Illinois School of Architecture Adding A Concentration Form online.

Once your “Adding a Concentration Form” submitted and you have gotten confirmation from a member of the School of Architecture administration, then you can go online and Petition to Add/Drop a Concentration via the Graduate College Student Portal.

Next steps

Once you have approval, your petition will be routed to the Graduate College for final approval.  Please note as well, students who would like to complete a concentration should declare their intent no later than the second week (10th class day) of the student’s second semester.  Please note that concentrations are not approved in any student’s final term.  Keep in mind, as well, that declaring your concentration early may influence studio assignments for relevant areas.
