intro
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign launched the “Place Making and Rural Tourism in China” program under its Vision 2030 Global Strategy. It focuses on Xihu Village, China, promoting sustainable tourism while preserving cultural heritage. Three interdisciplinary courses—Architecture, Art & Design, and Recreation, Sport, and Tourism—collaborate to create architectural designs, wayfinding systems, and tourism strategies that benefit both residents and visitors.
The program features courses taught by Windy Zhao, professor of Architecture, and Molly Briggs, professor of Art & Design.
