Illinois School of Architecture among DesignIntelligence’s Top 25 Programs
The ranking of NAAB-accredited degree programs appears in DI’s Q3 2016 issue, just released. DI compiles the rankings after a wide-ranging survey of “professional practitioners who hire and supervise” graduates of architecture programs.
Illinois’ M.Arch program ranks (in a tie) at #25 in the nation, up from #33 a year ago. Filtering for Illinois’ institutional peers—graduate architecture programs at public research universities that are members of the prestigious American Association of Universities—Illinois ranks (in a tie) at #7.
Illinois also fared well in DI’s annual student survey: an overwhelming 94% of our student respondents “believe they’ll be well prepared for their professional upon graduation.” Among DI’s 25 Most Admired Educators is Illinois alumnus David Miller, FAIA (M.Arch, 1972), founding partner in The Miller Hull Partnership, a Seattle-based architectural design firm. Miller is an architecture faculty member in the University of Washington’s College of Built Environments and served as design critic for the Summer 2016 International Design Workshop in Volterra, Italy, organized by Professor David Chasco, FAIA. In spring 2016, Miller delivered a captivating presentation as part of the school’s 2015-2016 lecture series.
Illinois’ rise in the annual DI rankings complements its place in the 2016 QS World University Rankings for programs in architecture, released last spring. For a second year running in the QS rankings, Illinois placed in the top 25 globally, the top 10 nationally, and third in the nation among public research universities.
