Carles Marcos Padrós Receives Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award
The award could be bestowed only on those who obtained a Ph.D. in any doctoral program of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia with a qualification of cum laude in the academic year 2015-2016.
The dissertation is entitled “L’Arquitectura de la cantonada: Barcelona com a cas d’estudi” (Architecture of the Corner: Barcelona, as a Case Study) and was co-directed by Xavier Monteys and Roger Sauquet.
The thesis is based on the analysis of the treatment given to the urban corner over time. The first part of the research brings together a set of observations focused on the architectural idea of the corner. The second and third parts offer a critical approach to 65 corner buildings located in Barcelona. These case studies are explored from the broad spectrum of the idea and are used to ratify the universality of the urban corner as an architecturally significant notion.
