Graduate Design Studio
Botond Bognar, Spring 2019
Through the generosity of the Plym Foundation, this studio traveled to Beijing, China. This trip allowed the students to experience the built environment and unique atmosphere of the historic Baitasi Hutong district. The project site was an abandoned farmer’s market and situated next to a prominent temple. Students individually designed a public market and cultural community center that provides a place for people to meet, communicate and interact with one another. Careful consideration of architectural tonality and material needs challenged students to establish a harmony with the existing historical built environment.
