ARCH 171: Concepts and Theories of Architectural Design
AnnaMarie Bliss, Fall 2020
Housing is one of the most important architectural structures; it meets the basic needs for shelter for many and provides context for daily experiences. Whether for a human or animal, the basic needs for shelter vary. We have adapted the idea of “home” for many different beings – from dog houses, to cat trees, to birdhouses – and we continue to develop how we approach housing design for comfort, elegance, relaxation, entertaining, privacy, and security.
For this project, students choose a “client” from a list of birds. For this client, they design a bird/house small/house using fundamental principles of residential design, along with attitudes, behaviors, and characteristics of the bird client.
