About Joel Koeppen
Bio
Joel Koeppen is a lead project designer at Kahler Slater and a key contributor on the Corporate, Hospitality and Residential projects. Focusing on multifamily housing and hotels, his rigor and tenacity lead to high-quality design.
With over a decade in professional practice, Joel possesses a uniquely diverse range of immersive project experience in his emerging career, including an AIA award winning residence. His broad repertoire also includes cultural, civic, higher education, industrial and health care projects. Variety in his work has cultivated a strong intuition and a balanced approach to design problems.
Joel’s passion for craft and tectonic refinement imbues his work with beauty and clarity, and his holistic design philosophy keeps him nimble in all scales and phases of design. Joel believes good design has the power to bring a higher level of quality and culture to our communities and he embraces every opportunity to make an impact at the local scale.
A longtime resident of Milwaukee, Joel earned both a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In addition to awards at Super Jury and the Inner Harbor Exhibition, Joel’s academic work was also published in Arch Daily. Prior to pursuing architecture, Joel studied music and has tied that experience into his creative process. He continues his involvement at the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning as a guest critic.
Joel serves as an adjunct professor in the Kahler Slater Studio for both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
