About Erik Hemingway
Biography
Professor Hemingway has taught architectural design at numerous universities since 1994, after having worked with Zaha Hadid and Arquitectonica. As Principal of the design firm hemingway+a/studio based in Chicago, his projects are widely published and awarded in competition with other practitioners. Teaching has enabled him to continue his research on modern cities, including Beijing, Los Angeles, and Detroit, in continuation of his thesis “Television City” undertaken at Columbia University in 1991. Utilizing CNC technology and outcomes, his work face[GUARD] won the competition for inclusion in the 2009 Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennial of Urbanism and Architecture titled “City Mobilization: BYOB.” As of 2022, student projects from his competition studios at Illinois have received 30 national and international recognitions.
