WE: women in education – a collaborative exhibition
Join Us for WE: women in education – a collaborative exhibition
In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, we invite you to WE: women in education, a collaborative exhibition organized by the Gender, Space + Critical Spatial Practice course group. This exhibition honors and highlights the invaluable contributions of women faculty in the School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning.
Grounded in bell hooks’ concept of education as “the practice of freedom” and inspired by Lorgia García Peña’s vision of education as a space of community and transformative action, WE explore pedagogical practices rooted in solidarity, hope, and allyship.
We welcome all students, faculty, and community members to join us.
Description:
WE is a collaborative exhibition organized by the Gender, Space + Critical Spatial Practice course group. In alignment with International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, the exhibition celebrates and highlights the invaluable contributions of women faculty in the School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning Programs. Grounded in bell hooks’ concept of education as “the practice of freedom,” the exhibition emphasizes critical thinking, dialogue, and unlearning as deeply democratic ways of knowing. Drawing inspiration from Lorgia García Peña, it frames education as a space of community and transformative action, underscoring the importance of pedagogical practices rooted in solidarity and hope—while also providing an opportunity for allyship.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.
