ARCH 373: Architectural Design and the Landscape
Third-Year Undergraduate Design Studio
Christina Bollo, Fall 2018
The north side of Allerton Park has formal gardens and existing buildings scattered throughout the area, while the south side is less disturbed, with only a few gardens and buildings. The artists village is located on the south side so that the buildings would be separated from spaces that have already been affected by man-made structures. Embedded in a hillside, the design has minimal visual impact. People walking through the forest on the hiking paths still have beautiful, uninterrupted views of nature. The hillside site also allows for large windows in the studio space facing the river, allowing for a very strong connection with nature while the artists are working.
