"My educational experience at Illinois was one of revelation and growth. Entering the architecture program with little background, but great interest, my mind was opened to the many different facets of the profession from history to engineering, technical drawing, art, and design. The well-rounded education I received inspired and challenged me while providing me with design, technical, and management skills that I have used throughout my career.

Two particular aspects of my Illinois educational experience that had a great impact on my professional development were the study abroad program and the opportunity to teach undergraduate studios as a graduate teaching assistant. Both of these were wonderfully enriching experiences."

4240 Architecture Inc.

4240 Architecture is an award-winning design firm providing architecture, planning, and design services from our offices in Chicago and Denver. In addition to architecture and interior design we are adept at master planning, programming, feasibility studies, and other related design disciplines such as graphic and signage design.

Drawing on many different sources of inspiration, we bring value to our clients by designing projects that support and evoke the client’s mission, vision, and purpose. Besides excelling at the management, technical, and design aspects of a project, what distinguishes 4240 is our forward thinking, research based “listen-researchdraw” design approach that results in the exploration of ideas that can be expressed and experienced in built form.

Our diverse portfolio reflects our desire to explore many different design opportunities. Our work includes new construction and renovation projects for commercial offices, residence halls, apartments, hotels, affordable housing, courthouses, and many other project types. Our main focus is work in the United States, but we also work internationally.

Our size allows us to handle large projects and small while ensuring that Principals are directly involved in every project.

Sustainable design is a core value. 75% of our staff are LEED Accredited Professionals and we approach every project with a view toward minimizing the impact on the environment.

We have high expectations. We appreciate that our clients have high performance standards and we expect no less of ourselves.
