Tim Scovic

Tim Scovic

Tim Scovic is an adjunct lecturer in the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he is currently teaching ARCH 518, Recording Historic Buildings. He previously taught courses in 19th and 20th century architectural history at Harrington College of Design in Chicago. Tim is a licensed architect in the State of Illinois and Founding Principal of Scovic Preservation Consulting. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked for over 18 years for Chicago-based architecture firms specializing in historic preservation. He has extensive experience conducting historic research, documenting and assessing historic resources, compiling technical reports, historic tax credit consulting, and managing both small and large rehabilitation projects.

Tim has worked on a wide range of projects for private building owners, developers, cultural institutions, universities, not-for-profits, religious organizations, and local, state, and federal government agencies. His portfolio includes work on over two dozen properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places as well as notable National Historic Landmarks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. He has worked on several preservation planning documents and restoration projects for significant buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and Mies van der Rohe.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Architecture with a Historic Preservation Concentration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and former Chair of the Historic Resources Knowledge Community for AIA Chicago. Tim is also a member of the Association for Preservation Technology (APT), the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Landmarks Illinois. He was a founding member of the APT Western Great Lakes Chapter, for which he served on the board as Vice President.

Tim regularly attends conferences and symposiums both locally and nationally to stay up to date on the latest technologies and trends in the historic preservation field. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his wife, two daughters, and dog.
