About Monica Cruz-Guaqueta
About
Mónica Cruz Guáqueta holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Los Andes University, Bogotá, Colombia, and a Master’s Degree in History and Theory of Architecture from Barcelona Tech, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She is currently a PhD candidate in History and Theory of Architecture at the same university, completing the final stages of her doctoral dissertation. With extensive experience in archival research, she worked for 12 years as documentary researcher in charge of the Gaudí Chair archive, part of the UPC Graphic Archives, which holds Gaudí’s original drawings and hundreds of materials related to his work. She has also worked with personal and institutional primary sources as a documentary researcher for exhibitions on major figures of Catalan Architecture, including Antoni Gaudí, Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and architectural theorist Ignasi de Solà-Morales.
Her research and teaching bring together her interest in books, literature, maps, and architectural imagery with a focus on the social, political, and historical contexts that shape the built environment. Her approach to architectural history emphasizes understanding buildings and urban spaces as a result of society and historical influences.
Currently, Professor Cruz Guáqueta serves as Visiting Lecturer in Architectural History for the Urbana-Champaign Abroad program in Barcelona-El Vallès and the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture Fall Abroad program, and as Associate Professor in Theory of Architecture at Barcelona Tech.
