About Dr. Qiu
Biography
Lingyi Qiu, Ph.D. EDAC, is a Teaching Assistant Professor in Architecture at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She teaches design studios and applied theory courses with a focus on health and wellbeing.
Lingyi received her doctorate in Architecture and Certificate for Health Systems & Design from Texas A&M University. Shas has ten years of teaching experience in China and the US, covering a variety of design studios and theory courses. Her research focuses on healthy housing and community, healthy building, active living research, and general environment-behavior research and its application with an emphasis on health, disparity, and sustainability. Her recent study “Impacts of Housing and Neighborhood Environments on Children’s Independent Mobility,” addresses an important yet highly understudied topic—the roles of housing and neighborhood environments on elementary school children’s home-based independent mobility while also accounting for the roles of personal and social factors. She has presented her study at Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) Conference, Active Living Conference, and Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) Annual Conference. With this study, she has also published two peer-reviewed journal articles and was awarded the Dissertation Fellowship from Texas A&M University.
