“An Equation for Sustainability: The Strategy of Habitability” – Pere Fuertes
“An Equation for Sustainability: The Strategy of Energy Culture” – Mariana Palumbo
Pere Fuertes is a Barcelonian architect and associate professor of Architectural Design at the Vallès School of Architecture (ETSAV), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He holds a PhD in architecture and is a researcher at Habitar UPC, a group dedicated to the study of the built environment from the perspective of use and transformation. His academic and research objectives focus on re-inhabiting the existing urban fabric and buildings as part of a strategy to promote and develop a sustainable environment based on the reprogramming and adaptation of architecture to new paradigms of habitability. Pere has had an architectural practice in Barcelona until 2014 and he is currently the Director of ETSAV for a period of four years.
Mariana Palumbo is a Barcelonian PhD lecturer and scientist in the Vallès School of Architecture (ETSAV), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and member of the Interdisciplinary Group on Building Science and Technology (GICITED). Her research has focused on the development and characterisation of bio-based building materials. She also works on the analysis, diagnosis and intervention in energy and material flows associated with urban metabolism. Her work aims to contribute to closing the material cycles associated with the built environment and reducing its environmental impact. She has also carried out technology transfer and architectural experimentation activities under the umbrella of the Map13 Barcelona studio, as a founding partner.
