DUST
DUST is internationally recognized for their aesthetics and ethics. The practice and work honor the environment, cultural and natural histories, sustainable practices, material, and place. The firm’s deep respect for these values has recently garnered larger commissions for projects in highly sensitive natural environments: ecological international hospitality commissions, cultural projects, and residences in Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, and Southern California. Each unique environment requires special consideration in the conservation, rehabilitation, or reintroduction of habitat balanced with the development of construction on a site; from historic neighborhoods, lava fields and oceanside, to mountains, grasslands, and pristine deserts.
These opportunities have allowed the promotion of culturally and environmentally responsive approaches in urban and remote contexts by minimizing impact, advocating for research informed decision-making, and carefully considering design and construction strategies. The process develops tactics for urban and master planning, creatively addresses zoning restrictions and challenges policies, advocating for habitats and pedestrian-focused development, incentives for infill districts, and encourages sustainable water management in rural and urban settings.
DUST’s collective expertise and interests are vividly reflected in their process and work. The firm’s leadership and experiences include institutional, cultural, hospitality, mixed-use, and multi-family typologies. DUST has uniquely assumed both Architect and Contractor roles. This accountability offers invaluable insights into budget, design, quality, project delivery, time, and site constraints. DUST becomes a steward and responsible partner, guiding the client and the project from inception to completion.
The work leads in with the question, “How can we contribute to making the place more meaningful and resilient than it was?”
