ARCH 272 | Spring 2018
Lecturers: Andrea Melgarejo de Berry, David Emmons

Arch 272 introduces students to design methodologies and concepts developed through the application of architectural design principles and project based assignments. The course title, “Strategies of Architectural Design,” is in part, to understand the importance of site in relationship to human scale and the built environment. It includes a portion of research and analysis regarding precedent examples in architecture. In addition, students are introduced to basic strategies of architectural design, such as “heaviness & lightness,” and how these strategies are implemented through tectonics and materiality. The second portion of the semester focuses on site-specific design and representation.
