Bio: Patricia Saldaña Natke FAIA is President and Design Principal of UrbanWorks Ltd, an award winning architecture, planning, and interior design firm in Chicago. Patricia is responsible for the visionary design direction of the firm. She has a passion for cities, neighborhoods, and especially the most vulnerable sections of cities and their population. Patricia is a firm believer that well designed spaces and places which allow cultural exchange underpins urban transformation.

Patricia has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago Graduate School of Architecture, Facilitator at Archeworks, Part Time Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture for the Advanced Design Studios, and Lecturer for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Master in Architecture program. She is currently a Part Time Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture for the Advanced Design Studios.

Prior to founding UrbanWorks, Patricia worked in design positions for several award-winning architectural firms. Among her professional accomplishments, Patricia chaired the National AIA Diversity Committee for the American Institute of Architects and was a past President of Chicago Women in Architecture and the Illinois Sao Paulo, Brazil Partners of the Americas Chapter. She is a member of CWA, Arquitectos, HACIA, American Institute of Architects, and the Concordia Place Advisory Council. Patricia is the current 2018/2019 Chair of the AIA Chicago Chapter Equity Roundtable.  Her extraordinary record of public service imbues her firm with a strong civic ethic.

Patricia’s firm, UrbanWorks, has won over forty planning and architecture design awards. Patricia was named one of “Five 2014 Emerging Designers” in Crain’s Chicago, listed in “50 Designers Shaping Chicago” by NewCity, and named “2015 Outstanding Woman” by Chicago’s largest Spanish newsmedia La Raza. She has lectured extensively throughout the United States including as a TEDX University of Chicago presenter on “Architecture: The New Social Agenda”. Patricia was elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2018 in Category One: Design – the AIA’s highest membership honor.  Her design work is currently on exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington DC.

Patricia is a graduate of UIUC’s School of Architecture.
