Assistant Teaching Professor Heather Grossman will present a paper at the 71st Annual International Conference of the Society of Architectural Historians in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 19, 2018. The SAH Conference – the premier world meeting of architectural historians – brings together international scholars of architectural history of all periods to exchange new research and ideas.

Professor Grossman’s paper is entitled, “Building Memory in Medieval Mediterranean Architecture,” and is featured in the panel Constructing Memory in Ancient and Pre-Modern Architecture. It considers ways that cultural memory is embedded in architectural forms, and the intersection of identity-bearing architectural mnemonics with a practical memory used by architects and builders to transmit architectural ideas and methods of making between themselves and their patrons.
