It was recently announced that from among over 200 entries, students from the Illinois School of Architecture have won second and third place awards in the 2017 Steel Design Student Competition, a national awards program sponsored by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). In the competition, students were challenged to design a new museum utilizing steel as the primary structural material.

Nahid Akram, who completed his design project as a student in Professor Kevin Hinders’ graduate studio, won Second Place in the competition.

Third Place was awarded to the team of Wei Lin and Meghna Majethiya, who completed their project as students in Professor Scott Murray’s graduate studio, for which Professor Marci S. Uihlein served as Structural Consultant.

Both winning projects were completed during the Spring semester of 2017.
