Dan Wheeler, FAIA, is the founding principal of Wheeler Kearns Architects, Chicago and is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dan received his education at the Rhode Island School of Design, including two years study in Rome. Prior to establishing his firm, he was an Associate and Studio head at Skidmore Owings and Merrill, Chicago (1981-87). Work of the firm is regularly published and awarded, including AIA, Driehaus, and the Rudy Bruner Awards. Dan is the recipient of the CCAIA Young Architect Award (1985), AIA Fellowship (1998) and the Chicago Tribune’s "Chicagoan of the Year" in Architecture (2008). He has served as Interim Director of The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and the UIC School of Architecture, and has been a consulting architect/educator to the Rural Studio since 2002.
