The Illinois School of Architecture, a unit within the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), invites applications for the position of Lecturer (Structures). The applicant must be willing to relocate to Spain.
We invite applications for a full-time, nine-month Lecturer position to teach Structures and other courses in the Illinois Architecture Study Abroad Program (IASAP-BV) located in the El Vallès area of Barcelona, Spain. The expected start date is August 16, 2017. Applications received by May 10, 2017 will receive full consideration. The Lecturer will teach two Structures courses to seniors in the school’s Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies major ARCH 451, Theory and Design of Steel and Timber, and ARCH 452 Theory of Reinforced Concrete. Other teaching includes making substantial contributions each semester to ARCH 468, Overseas Architectural Studies, which is collaboratively taught, and periodically engaging with students about problems of structural design during regularly scheduled studio instruction each semester. The Lecturer will also assist the IASAP-BV Director and the Program Coordinator in a wide range of administrative, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
The IASAP-BV is based at the highly ranked Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Vallès (ETSAV) of the Universitat Politèncnica de Catalunya-Barcelona Tech, Spain. The ETSAV is located in Sant Cugat, 20 minutes by train from the Barcelona city center.
Required qualifications include an earned Master of Architecture degree (or equivalent), and a record of accomplishments demonstrating expert knowledge of structural design. Preferred qualifications include focused coursework in structural design, culminating in a concentration or degree in engineering (architectural, structural, civil, or related field), and professional licensure.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
