"A Museum for Greenhouse Gases" - Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge World Heritage Site, Shropshire, UK

ARCH 574 | Fall 2015
Associate Professor Paul Kapp

The objective of this studio project was to adapt and transform the circa 1860 Long Warehouse at the Historic Coalbrookdale Foundry into a new museum and library facility for the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust (IGMT) in Shropshire, UK. Located in the Ironbridge World Heritage Site, known as the “Birthplace of Industry,” students were challenged to design within an area recognized by UNESCO as having “Outstanding Universal Value.” Students produced a building program, based on the IGMT’s needs, and designed a solution within the criteria set by Historic England.
