Ryan Abendroth is the founder, principle, and practitioner of Passive Energy Designs in St. Louis, Missouri—a company that consults on high-performing, low-energy buildings. To date, he has consulted on more than 100 buildings to help others design and achieve ultra-efficient houses that are aesthetically pleasing and functionally livable. He credits this career to his participation in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2009, an event that he calls “transformative” to his life.

Please join the Illinois School of Architecture in celebrating the 100th birthday of Professor Emeritus A. Richard “Dick” Williams, FAIA. Born September 23, 1914, Dick graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1936 and returned to serve on the faculty in 1946. During his long and distinguished career at Illinois, Dick was design architect for the College of Education building, which earned him the prestigious AIA Honor Award.

These awards recognize the outstanding student work completed in design studio courses at all levels of the curriculum.

Earl Prizes in Design
The Earl Prizes are funded with income from an endowment bequeathed by Edward C. Earl. Prizes are awarded for excellence in undergraduate design studios.

He recently graduated high school with a perfect 5.0 GPA and will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall to pursue his bachelor's degree in architecture.

Fifteen University of Illinois students have received Gilman scholarships to study abroad this summer and in fall semester, placing the University of Illinois atop the Big Ten and in the top 20 in the country for Gilman Scholarship recipients during these terms.
